Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative is sponsoring an Open House at Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood, and community members are encouraged to attend.
The school has shown impressive success in its first three years of operation. With the fourth year already underway, the Open House will give community members the chance to tour the facility and learn about the key factors essential to its achievements from school staff and parents.
“Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative has been following Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood’s progress over the years, and we’re encouraged by what we see,” TCCC CEO John C. Read said. “We want the public to see not only that every child can learn, but also how it’s done in one neighborhood Title I school.”

Meeting Street Elementary @ Brentwood is a free, public neighborhood school made possible through a public-private partnership between Charleston County School District and Meeting Street Schools. Opened in 2014 to grades Pre-K3 through third, it has grown by a grade each year and in 2018 will serve more than 600 students in Pre-K3 through fifth grade.
The school is open to all families in the district-drawn attendance zone and primarily serves those from under-resourced households. Its students significantly outperform those of similar backgrounds in surrounding schools.
Our CEO, John C. Read, wrote an opinion piece for Charleston Currents on the FAFSA.
A year ago, with support from The InterTech Group, we created the FAFSA Pilot Project. We chose five high schools with the lowest FAFSA completion and highest poverty rates in our region, and we went to work.
One year later, FAFSA completion at Burke High, Cross High, North Charleston High, R.B. Stall High and St. John’s High has increased by more than 20 percentage points to 48%, and they’re not done yet.
The FAFSA Pilot Project, an initiative of Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative, has met and surpassed its target, resulting in a 20-percentage point jump in FAFSA completions at five local high schools over the past year.
