John C. Read, CEO of Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative, intends to step down from the position later this year.
When Read was offered the position, he indicated a willingness to stay in place for a 3-to-5-year period, and he will have completed his fifth year in May of 2019. He informed the TCCC Board of Directors in June of 2018 of his intention to step down no later than June of 2019.
“It has always been my view that a non-profit CEO – especially one first to hold the position – should be careful not to overstay his welcome,” Read said. “TCCC has found its place in the community and is here to stay. I intend to continue the work on behalf of education attainment in the tri-county region, just from some other perch.”
During his years at TCCC, Read has spearheaded many initiatives, including:
– The formation and growth of two networks to take a data-driven, collaborative approach to improving high school graduation and kindergarten readiness, as well as two consortia comprised of school superintendents and college provosts.
– The creation of the Tri-County Regional Improvement Process (TRIP!), prompting a $1.5 million grant from The Duke Endowment for early childhood continuous improvement support.

The board has formed a CEO Search Committee – chaired by Coastal Community Foundation President and CEO Darrin Goss – and a position announcement has been published. Read will remain in place until a new CEO is elected.
